Trade-UPS marketing a scam

Back in the 80's when APC was "locally" owned, I did a lot of business with them. Today, it looks like times have changed!

The Ad in PC World says that APC will give a 25% discount for a tradeup. It does not say "up to a 25% discount", just a plain old flat "25%". When you enter your stuff, you find your discount ranges from a $ -0.01 [more than retail] to maybe $5.00 for a 350VA unit. This is just a scam and the original founders would turn over in their graves. So much for my trust in APC being ruined for all time.

It sounds marketing got a bit overzealous with the PC world advertisement. I hope it's an honest mistake.

[This apc-forums thread|http://forums.apc.com/spaces/5/smart-ups-symmetra-lx-rm/forums/general/4584/battery-led-s-blinking/1...] discusses the cost effectiveness of TradeUPS. The main idea I took away from it is unless I'm doubling my UPS capacity, the program is best thought of as free hazardous waste disposal.
