Surge vs Back-up? What is the difference between the plugs?

I am looking at two different models, the BR1200 and the BR1500.

I think both of them are big enough to run a few iMacs and external drives, the BR1500 being slightly beefier. Is the big difference between the two that the BR1500 can add a second external battery?

(I will put laser printers on a completely separate outlet, which I have never done before.)

My other question regards which plugs do what? The website picture seems to imply that all plugs are not the same. Two plugs are for surge, six are for battery. The graphics on the UPS are even more confusing with images of CPU, monitors and printers.

(2) NEMA 5-15R (Surge Protection)
(6) NEMA 5-15R (Battery Backup)

It seems to me that I need surge AND battery back up together for the CPU, monitor and external storage. Am I mis-reading this? Is battery back-up automatically surge protection as well?

Is an ink-jet printer okay, just not laser? Is that what the two surge plugs are for?

All outlets are surge protected, but the "surge protection" outlets are not on backup power and you'd plug in things like your desk lamp and such that you wouldn't care if the power is lost during an outage. Laser printer on the same breaker, even on a different outlet might cause the UPS to hunt back and forth between battery and AC power. It depends on your printer and your house wiring.

The inkjet printer on the surge outlet is fine.

To clarify, all of the outlets are surge protected. The battery backed-up outlets are both battery and surge protected.
