I was all set to purchase a new BR1500 when I found a guy on Craigslist with a new BX1500. This is an older model, no longer for sale. The specs seem to be all the same.
Should I buy it? What happens with the warranty, etc? The website says the BX1500 has a 2 year warranty, whereas a new BR1500 has a 3 year warranty.
Will it already be out of warranty when I buy it?
Does the battery 'age' even though it is unused? Are replacement batteries available (and will the cost of a new battery basically nullify the savings?)
He wants $150, but I have to go a ways to pick it up, whereas I found a BR1500 for $210 delivered to my door. I'm not sure this is a good deal or not to save $60.
thanks,
steve
P.S. I am running a Mac. Does any of the software that ships with the UPS apply to me?
P.P.S I also have a general question. I found the replacement battery for the BX1500. It costs $89.00, which I guess means this model is over two years old (since batteries are only available for units out of warranty,) and the unit probably is as well.
My question is this: Does surge protection work without battery back-up? I am interested in surge protection for laser printers, etc, so this unit may have some value to me even if the battery is dead. Can it be used with the battery removed and still be a good surge protector?

Any Back-UPS family UPS purchased Since January 1, 2006 has a 3 year warranty. Prior to that date, the warranty was 2 years.

Hi Steve,
The BX series of UPS's are retail only, and still available in most markets. However, the warranty would not be honored since the warranty does not exchange ownership upon transfer of the unit.
The Battery should be an RB33, which it seems you already found.
You don't want to use a laser printer in conjunction with a UPS even if it's just for surge protection. The printer should go on a different circuit with standard surge protection altogether.

What do you mean by 'standard' surge protector?
Also, I have a question regarding warranties. On this website it says the warranty is 3 years, but at a lot of websites it says 2 years.
What is the real warranty?
Thanks,
Steve
