Hi,
I have a APC Smart-UPS 700VA and basically I'm trying to use its DB-9 RS-232 interface port to connect it to a PC so I'm trying to see if I can connect it using a DB-9 to USB cable. Heres the thing, as soon as I connect the cable to the UPS, it powers down.
What am I doing wrong? Don't know much about UPS as its my first time using one.

Mr. Bond,
I believe the problem is that the DB-9 serial cable that is being used is not the standard APC Smart Signaling cable. The part number on that cable is 940-0024 and is approximately 3 feet in length, and black. Any standard straight-through serial cable connected to the serial port on the UPS will cause it to immediately power off.
