I have a Back-UPS LS 700 connected to a Windows 2003 domain controller. Runtime is great, but when the controlled shutdown is triggered I get "previous shutdown unexpected" and a reboot in the event log afterward. I haven't seen it happen in person, but the symptoms suggest the UPS isn't waiting long enough for the computer to hibernate. Is that possible? And can I change the delay time?

I had the same kind of problem with a Back-UPS RS800 and a Windows 2008 Server.
However in my case the default delay (90 sec) before turning the UPS off was too short to allow the server to complete its hibernation sequence (more than 100 sec).
Changing the TurnOffDelay value from 1 to 2 helped to fix the issue by increasing the delay to 3 min.
The delay seems to be 90 sec x TurnOffDelay (checked also with TurnOffDelay = 3, roughly 4 mn 30 sec).
Hope this helps.

Anyone know if this would work?
HKLM\Software\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition\2.00.000\Settings\TurnOffDelay
Or maybe ...\2.00.000\Shutdown\TurnOffUPSTimeOut

Hi serematique, thanks for your help. I will try that TurnOffDelay registry value. In the meantime, I found a workaround:
Disabling system hibernation forces PowerChute Personal to perform a managed shut down rather than a hibernation. This is actually a preferred behavior because there is no reason for a domain controller to hibernate. It now shuts down within the 90 seconds and restarts normally without errors.
I hope these ideas are helpful to everyone, since the APC tech support could not come up with any of this information for me.
