Shut down the APC UPS when low battery

Hello,

we are using APC Back-UPS CS 500 pluged with USB to PC.

Now we are using SystemPowerStatus to get the info of battery and if battery is lower then 20% we shout down our application and windows, but APC UPS stays online.

We know there is a way to set shut down the UPS with PowerChute application,

but we need to shout down our applications first and then shout down the windows and UPS.

So our question is if there is a way to comunicate with UPS and send command to shout down ? (we are using C#).

I don't have much expertise in this area but I thought USB Back-UPS provided support for USB HID power device usages. I google'd 'apc ups hid usage' and got a few results. I don't know if anything there is useful? Or if you spend a little more time looking into generic power device HID related items? Perhaps someone else with more expertise with this type of thing can also chime in.
