Hi, we have 4 windows 2008R2 VM's on VMWare.
We currently use this UPS.
APC Smart-UPS 1500VA USB & Serial RM 2U 120V. Model Number: SUA1500RM2U
If/When there is a power outage I would like VMWare to power down the servers, then shut down its self. We want to avoid a hard reboot if the power is off too long and the UPS power runs out. Ideally send a signal to shutdown when the battery level drops below 10% or something.
Is this possible? Can someone itemize what I would need to make this work?
TIA!

Hi,
Does the SUA have a network card installed? If so you can use PowerChute Network Shutdown to power down the ESXi host. You should review these documents. PowerChute Network Shutdown Installation Guide, PowerChute Network Shutdown VMware User's Guide
If the SUA does not have a network card then you can use PowerChute Business Edition to power down the ESXi host. The host server will need to be connected to the SUA using a serial cable (part number 940-0024). You should review FAQ FA165747 PowerChute Business Edition needs to be installed on VMware vMA. The software will monitor the SUA and when needed will send a shutdown signal to the ESXi host. The host will first command the VMs downs (see FAQ FA159688) then power down.
