I found a good deal on the Dell 1500 VA UPS with 8 outlets (Manufacturer Part# : 8J423, Dell Part# : 310-1320). Dell states that it compares to APC Smart UPS, Mfg Part Number: SUA1500, but is the hardware really the same? I would have gone for the APC branded unit, but the current Dell deal is hard to resist.
Thanks!

yeah like i said, DLA1500 should come with a three year warranty but a replacement UPS goes through Dell so if they had something different rigged up, they'd tell you. it sounds like maybe that is what will happen with dell since they old you otherwise. APC only sends replacement batteries for dell units under warranty.

I’ve finally received an email confirmation from Dell about the warranty. The warranty is limited to one year since the unit was purchased alone. It’s fine by me, especially considering the price. I’ll be keeping/printing the email, just in case!
Again, thanks for your help!

in general, the Smart UPS units and Dell units have a couple differences. Dell units come standard with a three year warranty from Dell versus a two year with an SUA1500 from APC. They also lack the sensitivity LED/button on the back of the UPS. The sensitivity would need to be changed through the software. Furthermore, some of the dell units (I dont think the 1500 though) come with different input cords and sometimes different back plates.
the SUA1500 and Dell part, which I am assuming is DLA1500 for the model number, only have a couple of differences. I believe the warranty would be different (two year on the SUA1500 versus three year on the Dell) as well as the sensitivity LED/button missing from the back that I mentioned.
APC has a link to it on apc.com [seen here|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=DLA1500].
upon comparing those on the apc.com website, I do not see any other differences than those I just mentioned.

Thanks for the information i picKed a winna! I guess that for 299,00$ CAN and free shipping (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Power/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&cs=cadhs1&sku=310-1320), I could not ask for a better unit. I was somewhat nervous, since the Dell site does not give much information...

I’ve contacted Dell, and they tell me that the standard warranty on the UPS is 1 year. It would not be the first time that I’m given the wrong information when talking with a “live chat” support agent, so I’ll know for sure once I get the unit.

yeah i mean unless this is refurb, a model of DLA1500 (which is comprable to SUA1500), should have a three year warranty, even per the apc.com page I sent you on it.

This is getting stranger… Some people on RedFlagDeals.com claim that the Dell branded UPS (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Power/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&cs=cadhs1&sku=310-1320) comes with a warranty of only 90 days… It’s a bit disconcerting, especially since no one at Dell appear to know for sure…

i can just say that a dell model of DLA1500 bought brand new through Dell SHOULD have a three year warranty under normal circumstances. i am not sure where all this other gossip is coming from..

I’ve finally received my UPS, and it’s an APC branded one (no mention of Dell).
Like you guessed, it’s a DLA1500 (REV A00). When I registered the unit on the APC site, it says it’s coming with a standard 3 years warranty.
