Hello APC and the APC Forum users.
My problem is I don't know enough about APC UPS devices and need only a simple solution. I am interested in determining what physical devices/hardware are required to provide SNMP support to an SNMP capable APC UPS device. This doesn't seem clear to me from the web site. Also, any software components involved in getting such a configuration setup. If someone can point me to the right FAQ or article that would be wonderful, or explaining in your own words will be much appreciated.

mtroha,
I don't have the APC UPS I need yet, which means I am in the market for a new one. I found it difficult to figure out which UPS's that APC offered supported SNMP from the web site. Too many models for someone who knows little about APC or UPS capabilities. However, I think you have answered my question indirectly by narrowing the field of UPS's that I would be interested in. Thank you.
I will post any more questions here should I run into problems.

BrianK,
What type of APC UPS are you trying to monitor via SNMP? Only SmartUPS and Symmetra UPS systems are capable of being monitored via SNMP, by installing a APC Network Management Card in the UPS. APC NMS's are the AP9617, AP9618, and AP9619 each with varying features and the AP9617 being the base model.
FYI, BackUPS do not have the ability to use a NMC.
Once the NMC is installed in the UPS and you've assigned it an IP address on your network, it is capable of being monitored via SNMP. If you need the MIB file, it is available for download on the APC website if you select 'Firmware Upgrades - All' from the Software/Firmware page. It should be the first item listed when you filter this way.
Do you already have a NMC in the UPS?
