SMART UPS SUA750i continuous beeping

I got new APC smart UPS 750VA (SUA750i) 230 V model - Made in Philppines 2 week ago from my friend. yesterday I unpacked it and charged the battery for atleast 20 hrs (battery lights bar now full). Today I hooked it up with my computer (Intel Pentiium IV 2.26GHZ, 160 GB IDE hard disk, 21" Dell CRT moniter , DVD rom, 400W power supply, no graphix card or other accessories, WINDOWS XP) and after I started the computer (with utility power on) the battery light bar started blinking but the computer loaded normally. I turned the moniter off and the battery lights stopped blinking and went to normal light. When I turned the monitor on again the battery light bar started blinking again. There were no indication of overload on UPS panel. I installed the powerchute plus software (Ver 5.2.1 copyright 2000) supplied with the UPS. The software has installation option for only win2000/NT, Netware, win98. I selected win2000/NT. The software detected the ups as SMART-UPS 700 on COM 1. when I started the software It says the battery is discharged and utility and input voltage 110 V (screenshot is attached for your review). Although In our country we have a utility voltage of 230 Volts. Why software is showing wrong voltage. The UPS also passed the self test.

Anyway I tried to test my ups by switched off the utility power. The ups normally switched to battery but the battery graph in software as well as in UPS battery light bar suddenly went down and within 20 sec it went to zero and then a short beep was heard continuously and the Powerchut software shutted down the computer in a normal way. I switched on the utility power and again started the computer and loaded windows XP. I uninstalled the powerchut software and again tested the ups by switching off the utility power. The UPS started beeping. I thought my computer would be shutdown abnormally. Amazingly the UPS kept the computer and monitor running for atleast 20 min (with power load of 3 lights bar).

I dont know what is happening. this is the new UPS so y the battery light showing suddenly zero although after that It ran my computer for 20 mins. Also why the lights bar started blinking when i turn on the monitor. I am also attaching my UPS pictures for your review. Moreover I cannot claim any warrenty as I haven't the warrenty paper.

Please answer me in detail what is the main problem and what should i do.

i also agree, i notice the sticker is not the usually APC using, i think they change the PCB and front bezel. Also i think you can't get the warranty if ever the unit is faulty.

okay..

something doesnt match up here. the serial number beginning with WS98 indicates the unit was manufactured in 1998. as far as i know the SUA models did not come out until AFTER 1998 in any region of the world. they would have all been SU700I or something like that. it seems like something has been refurbished here or something because of the fact that the serial number is from 1998 and the model is SUA750I but the software says its a Smart UPS 700 even though it should say Smart UPS 750. that may explain the issue with the firmware too reporting it is a 120v unit.

in regards to the battery charge lights blinking, [see this article|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1497]. that issue basically means the UPS thinks its runtime is within two minutes of the low battery signaling time which makes sense that it would happen when you start your PC, etc or when the load goes up, which causes the runtime to go down. it lasted for 20 minutes so the software value just may need to be adjusted so that you shop seeing the LEDs flash and getting battery discharged messages. by the way, the flashing LEDs are a cosmetic issue only.

do you have any more information on how this was "made in the phillippines 2 weeks ago"? I can help you adjust the software value but i really need to confirm the background on this unit so that we do it correctly because the procedure depends on the model number.

lastly, i noticed you were using powerchute plus. this is old and powerchute business edition should be available for download which is the updated software you can use with this unit.

Many thanks for the detailed and helpful reply. In my question I meant to say that I got this UPS 2 weeks ago and this ups is assembled in philippines. If you zoom the attached pictured of rear panel of this ups there is a sticker attached on the rear panel having manufacturing source and serial number (S9834958512) pasted on it.

It think the guy from which i got this ups cheated me and give me the fake duplicate apc ups. What do you think.

i agree - something is fishy with it. we didnt make Smart UPS 750's back in 1998. it seems as though they changed the model on the UPS and also put a SUA750I front bezel on it since the software thinks its a Smart UPS 700.
