Hello,
I have a few questions about this APC back-UPS rs-1000 , grey model, unit I have. I replaced the battery with a American Battery Company RBC5 battery. The unit is chirping about once every 10 minutes. The chirps come in sets of twos or threes. And the "Replace Battery" red light flashes.
The unit does seem charged up and can run my computer with the unit unplugged, so it seems to be working.
I have read in these forums about other unit that are doing intermittent chirping and some have suggested disabling the alarm .
Can this unit be made to silence the alarm? The unit doesn't have a data port so I would think not. I can't see how I could use the powerchute program with this unit.
The unit APC runs a bit hot to the touch to, is it supposed to be a bit hot? The vent ports are clear of dust.
I reset the unit after the new battery was put in.
I received the APC unit at a going out of business sale and without a battery and can't say for sure if it is in good shape. The battery tested after charging for a day at 26V.
To summery, how can I stop the chirping?
Thanks for any insight,
Larry

By any chance, can you provide the exact model number of the UPS? With this we could check the technical specifications to see if there's really no data port on the UPS. Unfortunately the alarm on that UPS might not be disabled. If this has not been used in years especially without the batteries, there's a good chance that what you got there has encountered a fault already.
