RBC35 and RBC2 interchangeable in BE350U and BE500U ?

Can I replace my dead BE500U battery (RBC2) with a RBC35 that I already have from a BE350U and use a styrofoam block to fill the extra battery compartment space? Is the automatic charging circuit for the 350U and 500U about the same? I only need power protection for momentary outages so I do not mind the smaller RBC35 battery capacity.
