My situation is that we lose power here at least once a day, usually in the morning, and only for a split second, just long enough for devices to restart or turn off. To deal with this, I bought a BX950MI-GR UPS for my PC, which draws no more than 200 W.
Lately, I’ve noticed that whenever there’s a power cut, the UPS shuts off immediately instead of switching to battery mode. It doesn’t even try to stay on, and it seems like the problem is getting worse every week, so I suspect the battery is failing. The UPS was bought new, has never been opened or serviced(i hope).
I opened it up and found that the battery is a LEOCH DJW12-9.0 with markings 090623HF4V, which suggests it’s about 1 year and 4 months old.
My first question is: is this the original battery? I’ve seen that the official replacement is RBC17, which is quite expensive, and this LEOCH battery looks like a cheap Chinese alternative.
I took some measurements with a multimeter:
Unplugged voltage: ~13.17 V, which seems healthy.
Charging voltage: ~14 V.
Under load (connected my display): the voltage dropped to around 11 V, which felt low.
My second question is: is there anything I can check to make sure the UPS circuitry itself is working properly?
Since the genuine replacement battery is a bit pricey, I’m planning to get a Green Cell AGM06 (12 V / 9 Ah) instead and hope it works well. I’ll also make sure to keep the UPS in a cooler spot in the room to extend the new battery’s life.

Provide a clear photo of the front and back of the UPS showing the serial number.
Provide a clear photo of the battery production sticker / embossed print. Based only on the information provided here it appears the RBC is EOL and needs to be replaced.
The average service life is 2-5 years based on usage, temperature, and environmental conditions. The RBC cells are designed to sustain 260 depletion cycles before signs of degradation subject to the caveats listed up above.
APC uses and installs various brands of batteries which at a high level appears based on availability, region, product cost, and quality of UPS.
As such you’ll see the following battery names: Vision, Leoch, Long, CSB. The highest quality cells are from CSB as such offer the most consistent and reliable performance vs the other three.
15 years ago you would be very hard pressed to see anything but CSB in any APC Enterprise Class UPS. ☝️
Unfortunately, APC like every other company is managed by bean counters and salesmen. As such, you will find Vision / Long cells in $1K ~ $8500.00 systems instead of CSB! 👎
