I was wondering how you handle the following scenario:
I have a computer plugged into the master outlet. Plugging the Monitor/scanner/printer into the controlled outlets (setting Master to Enabled).
When the power would go off, I might want to be able to manually save something (if I'm there), but as the monitor is plugged into one of the controlled outlets, it will be shut off so I can't see anything as that is not supported by the battery.
However, if I plug the monitor into one of the battery outlets, it will remain on after the computer shuts down, draining the battery.
I guess I'm looking for a battery supported, controlled outlet option.
I have a program that I use to automatically shut down the computer at night (say an hour after I go to bed) in case I'm downloading a file, so that would be another situation that I would like to be able to just have it all shut down at once.
I am thinking about using a combination computer/monitor plug that I've seen which will run both power cables through one computer cord. This would be a work-around, but I thought I would check to see if the UPS had another way this could be done.

I've tried that, the monitor (and a VCR I have) will stay on at least 15-20 minutes after the computer is shut down when they are plugged into the battery backup outlets, which is OK for the VCR, I just don't want something like the monitor draining the battery.

Check if you can do this option to your ups via power chute : turn off ups after time when power is cut off.
in this option you can plug the monitor into back up outlet, when the utility is powerd off you have time to save your work after that the ups will auto shutdown.

I checked in the APC software program to see if I have that option and I don't. I think what you describe would work great for my situation if it was available. For now, I think I will use my combo computer/monitor plug to make it work for me.
