I apologize in advance if this question has been answered many times before.
Unit Model: BX900R
Serial# JB0643016439
I'm sure this unit is no good, but before I dismantle and dispose, I wanted an APC expert's evaluation.
Purchased unit used and not tested.
Plugged in to on-line power, unit emits continuous tone and no LED's light. Pressing power switch doesn't do anything. Unplugged from on-line power, unit continues to emit tone and have to disconnect batteries to stop.
Leaving UPS unplugged from on-line power and reconnecting batteries, there is a spark as connection is made.
Pressing power button, unit emits continuous tone again and no LED's light up. Have to disconnect batteries to stop tone.
When plugged in to on-line power, there is power to the surge protected outlets, but not the battery backed outlets.
The cooling fan does not come on and the software can not detect the unit at all
I didn't pay much for this UPS and the batteries are in good condition so I got my moneys, worth. Would have been nice if the unit had worked to.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply.
The individual battery voltages were slightly above 12v ie 12.6
Combined the total voltage was about 25v.
I bought the unit at a yard sale for $5

Hi Wesley,
This does sound like an internal fault on the UPS.
1) have you checked the battery voltage to make sure its around 12V?
2) Where did you purchase the UPS?
Something to keep in mind is even if the UPS doesn't work you can still use it for the Trade-UPS program to get a discount on a new one if needed. http://buy.apc.com/commerce/storefronts/tradeups/tradein.aspx?storefrontcode=apcetu&countrycode=US&t...
