Problem with Back-ups ES550 BS1363

Hi,

I have a ES550 (BE550-UK, initial digit of serial:5b0828) for the company server and network peripherals, and it stop working after a whole day power failure cause by building maintenance. Now when it was plugged, it buzz a low volume and continuously mid-high pitch tone, with a constant on green light. If I press or hold the power button next to the indicator, it buzz continuously with lower pitch tone, and the green light still on but getting brighter. Sometimes the brighter green light seems to go off in a speed that can barely notice.

The only way to stop this annoying buzz is to unplug the UPS. When devices plug to both socket groups of the ES550, they still get powered, and ES550 keep buzzing like above mentioned.

This UPS was installed for around 3 years with no known power failure to fully deplete it ever. What's wrong with the UPS? can we fix it?

It will be a great help to get the problem fix ASAP, thank you.

Can you match the visual and audible indicators the issue to anything listed here (refer to page 2)? http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z7V9Q/ASTE-6Z7V9Q_R1_EN.pdf

Was the UPS left on and discharged its battery during the building maintenance? It will require probably anywhere from 16-18 hours to charge back up fully so I probably would've left it alone for that much time. The things you are describing though don't sound normal.  You may also consider finding the USB cable if you don't have it and connecting the UPS to PowerChute Personal Edition in an attempt to get some UPS status information from the UPS.

Lastly, you can try to reset the UPS to see if any change. Turn off and disconnect anything plugged into it. Remove a USB data cable if present. Then, turn off the UPS itself and unplug it from AC power. Remove the battery and then hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Reconnect the battery and plug the UPS back in and then you can turn it on to see if any change.

The only thing serviceable in a UPS like this is the battery. So if it is a fault with the UPS, it should be replaced or traded in.
