HELP! No matter what I do, my XS900 will not function properly. Below is what is happening, and what I've done, without success. Ideas?
XS900 is going into "Overload" with the red light flashing and continuous tone, BUT:
- there is no equipment plugged into it.
- the power supply to the UPS is "clean"
- the unit passed a self-test.
After turning off the unit, 30 seconds later it shows overload with continuous tone.
After unplugging the unit, and turning it off, it also shows overload with continuous tone.
For the last year, the unit has been supplying power to a bare-bones PC, monitor, and a 5-port switch (not even 50% of load capacity).
The problem first surfaced as the UPS cycled the power off and on - 20 to 30 seconds to a cycle, therefore, my PC was trying to boot every 30 seconds.
The unit was not connected to the computer with a data cable, nor was PowerChute installed on the PC. When it was installed, the behaviour of the UPS did not change.
At this point, the UPS is unusable until the problem is identified.

I have the SAME "overload" flashing problem! Only had 2 small USB harddrives connected to it. This unit is less than a year old. HELP! Serial # is: JB0750017532.
It happens if the unit has anything plugged in or not.

Hi,
Generally when the UPS goes into overload with nothing plugged in, this is indicative of an internal fault with the UPS. It could have absorbed a surge and sacrificed itself as well. If you are comfortable, you can try disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting it and turning it back on again to reset it, but I doubt it will help since it usually is non-recoverable.
If you provide the serial number, I can tell you if the unit is still in warranty and then if you'd like, you can call into tech support to receive a replacement unit if it is under warranty.

Your unit will still be in warranty. They have a three year warranty. JB0639 indicates it was manufactured in the 39th week of 2006 and then we add 3 months to that to account for distribution time. Regardless, if you bought it in February 07 we'd still honor the warranty with a proof of purchase but you dont need to worry about that.
I do run across customers who have difficulty disconnecting the battery. Depending on the models, some use an anderson type connector, others use leads. Sometimes they are tough to remove or someone doesnt want to touch it.
I suggested disconnecting it and reconnecting just to make sure the circuitry is reset on the UPS but I dont think it will solve the problem.
Hope this helps and you certainly should be entitled to a replacement if the issue still remains.

Thanks for your reply.
The unit's serial number is JB0639037159. We bought it Feb 07, so it is probably off warranty, but I would appreciate your effort in checking.
Thank you!
C'est.
PS - Do you really run across people for whom unplugging a battery is a problem?

Thank you! That's very good news. By the way, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, as you suspected, does nothing for the problem.
How do I go about getting a replacement?
Thank you.

Wow, I have the EXACT same problem. My serial number is: JB0629000574
I've tried everything. The UPS has been powering the same equipment since I bought it over a year ago. As far as I know, no surges occurred (none of my other surge protection was tripped).
Can you please send me an email as well, to help me get a replacement unit?
Thanks much,
Clinton

Done, be on the look out for it.
For any others with the same issue on this particular model of BX900R, I'd ask that you go through tech support at 800-890-4272 as this is not my full time duty so I don't want to keep anyone waiting out there.

I just bought a XS 900 for my HDTV and cable box. I have no intent to connect a computer to it. After charging the battery for 18 hours and plugging in the equipment, I pulled the AC plug from the XS 900 input source and the battery powered the equipment for about 5 seconds and then shut down. This is nit right. The equipment plugged into the unit to run off battery is approximately 280 watts, roughly a half load.
I did not connect a computer to this unit and run the software because I will not have a computer on it. There are very slim operating instructions included with this unut. It seems pretty basic though, charge it up, plug in the equipment, let it run. Why would I need to do anymore? Shouldn't this be default operation?

My S/N is: JB0639032664, Model: BX900R
