We have the UPS powering the computer of a pc based cnc. When we throw the disconnect on the machine the computer drops out, but if we just unplug the UPS from the outlet, the computer stays on. After the disconnect is pulled and the computer drops out, the UPS is on battery power, as I can just press the power button on the computer and it will boot. The UPS is powered from a 500va, 480v pri, 120v sec transformer inside the machine. Any ideas on how to remedy this problem?
Jim

This cable 'Simple Signaling UPS Cable - USB to RJ45' DOES have the transformer node near the RJ45 plug, which obviously accounts for the $32.00 price tag, and explains why the UPS and computer are not communicating.

Hello,
Sorry about the delayed response, what do you mean by disconnect? It sounds like the computer's power supply may not like the transfer time from online to on battery. The Back-UPS ES has a transfer time of 6-8 milliseconds. The power supply may need a quicker transfer time, such as 2-4 milliseconds, which our Smart-UPS line can supply
Thank you.

Well, we have the right cable, but there still seems to be no communication between the USB connected (directly) Back-UPS ES500 and the WinXP system. When PowerChute Personal Editon(v2.0) is run, this message appears:
'The installer is unable to locare a supported APC battery backup connected to your computer. Please check your USB connections and try again.'
1. The UPS doesn't appear in Device Manager.
2. On the UPS tab (Power Options), Status indicates 'Current power source: AC Power' No reading is given for 'Estimated UPS runtime', 'Estimated UPS capacity', or Battery condition'
3. Uninterruptible Power Supply is started and set to run Automatically
Any assistance would be appreciated.

We have a Backup ES500, so we're thought it best to include it on this thread. Our UPS and desktop computer (W2k-SP2), don't seem to want to commnicate. We have a RJ45 to USB cable connecting the UPS's data port to an available USB port (directly) on the computer. The computer (Device Manager) simply doesn't recognize the existence of the UPS. We've seen this cable priced on the APC website for about $32.00. Does the required RJ45-USB cable come with a transformer node near the RJ45 (larger version than regular telephone plug) end of the cable because, the cable we're using does not have that node. It's simply a RJ45 to USB cable.
We've attempted a number of suggestions indicated in other threads, but none seem to work when it comes to recognizing the existence of the USB connected UPS. We also read one thread which indicated that Device Manager will not automatically recognize the USB connected UPS, but that thread had to do with the serial to USB (or vice versa) connected UPS.
If someone could identify what the RJ45 to USB cable looks like, as far as the existence of a transformer node, at least we woulds know that having the wrong cable is our issue. Thanks.
