I just replaced my two old APC units with two BN1050M units. After installing, I saw that Powerchute Personal Edition was being replaced by Powerchute Serial Shutdown. So I installed the latter. When I use it, it takes me to an unsecured "local" website that greatly upsets my Norton programs. I also recall that the installation opened a port on my router. Is this standard practice? With my limited knowledge, it seems unsafe.
Should I go back to the Personal Edition if there is still time? I like having the program local on my computer rather than on the web, and possibly not secured.

The new PCSS is web based instead of running on a dedicated software platform.
The web page it launches is (local) to you on the computer and not going out to the Internet.
You just need to place that webpage on the white list of approved sites in Norton. Lastly, if PCPE supports this new hardware that is also an option to use vs the web based PCSS. 👍

I should add that the PCPE does work with the new units. I'll use it for now and perhaps revisit PCSS later.
