APC Smart-UPS 2200VA with empty battery - 4 years old - best practise
Hello,
APC Smart-UPS 2200VA SMT2200RMI2UNC
Battery LED is read.
Webadmin: At least one faulty battery exists. UPS: The battery is now installed. UPS: The battery is not installed properly.
Surprisely the APC was off yesterday. (maybe 2 Week selftest - I don´t know)
I turned it on and it is working again.
Do you think the whole APC is defective? It is 4 years old without any Battery replacement.
There is a one small HPE Rackserver and 2-3x 48Port Switches connected.
It will take some time to be onsite to change battery.
As a first step:
Is there any disadvantage removeing the old/empty battery and keep the USV online without battery as first step. Approx 1-2 week later the new battery will be connected.
I disabled SELF TEST because of the defective Battery.

Makes very little sense in connecting anything to the UPS. Since there is no battery cartridge installed the first time the system attempts to switch over to battery only mode the unit will drop the load.
If your computer is attached it will obviously experience a hard shutdown. Repeated hard shutdowns will begin to corrupt the OS never mind cause a loss of data that hasn’t been saved.
I suggest you wait for the new battery cartridge to arrive and complete the checkout process when it’s time.
