SOHO Win10/Win11 with SMC1000C with PCSS Agent. The .ini file has a CommsTimeout Value = 10.
Previous PCPE app could stay running continuously in background and brought up at will with no login required. PCSS times out and requires new login constantly. Very inefficient.
Thus PCSS has 2 deficiencies: 1. Agent Times Out constantly
2. Can't save login info in agent login via web browser on //localhost
What is the maximum timeout value that can be specified in the .ini file or eliminated entirely?
How can Login Info be saved in a browser or eliminated entirely for a Home Office usage?
Thanks much!
A txt version of the .ini is attached ...

The CommsTimeout value in the ini file is the time (in seconds) between PCSS detecting communications with the UPS were lost and PCSS notifying the Communications Lost event. It's unrelated to login. PCSS, similar to PCPE, will keep running in the background continuously and protect your PC.
The login requirement is only for accessing the Web User Interface from your browser. This security feature is important if accessing the Web UI from a remote browser. PCPE does not have a Web UI and does not need a login requirement. If you have a Back-UPS connected, then the PCSS installer gives you the option of not creating a user account (eliminating the login requirement). This option is currently not supported for Smart-UPS (like your SMC1000C).
The PCSS Web UI login session times out after 15 minutes of inactivity (keyboard or mouse activity on the Web UI). After this 15 minutes you will have to login again. You can modify this 15 minutes timeout by editing the agent\etc\webdefault.xml file in PCSS installation folder (usually "C:\Program Files\APC\PowerChute Serial Shutdown\"). It has a 'session-timeout' value which is currently set to 15 minutes. Set it to a higher value to increase the inactivity timeout. You have to restart the 'PowerChute Serial Shutdown' agent service (or restart the OS) for this change to take effect.
<session-config>
<session-timeout>15</session-timeout>
</session-config>
Note that a PCSS upgrade installation overwrites webdefault.xml, so you have to make the change again after upgrading to a new version (or repair install of the same version).
