Hello, I tried installing this version on Windows Vista SP1 64bits ( Ultimate )
for my Back-UPS RS-1500LCD
unfortunately, the first time I tried installing ( the 2.1.1 used to work, before my Vista died and had to reinstall.. but not very well.. )
the 2.2 reports an error while "disabling windows native power management " ( Vista X64 detects my UPS as a normal battery. with very limited options to control it )
the error says
"Please check the USB connectivity between your PC and UPS before you proceed. Rolling back the installation"
considering Im getting status of the power via Windows's native power management, I find it extrange.. also the UPS is detected as "HID UPS Battery"
anyone knows what can I do to resolve the issue? ( note, I tried changing USB ports and still windows detects it, but the installation of Power Shute Personal doesnt.. )

Thats the problems I want to avoid, so I usually dont restore nor repair heh.
but I find it interesting, that if I remove manually the "HID UPS BATTERY" from the hardware list using the device managet, the installation freezes in "removing window native power management" ( not exactly hangs, just keeps there forever.. )
but anyway... still the installation does a "rollback" because it somehow "doesnt detect" the APC device ( it keeps asking you to plug it.. even when Vista detects it.. )
but yeah I find it a bit extrange. I think ill try to check if theres any directory or anything similar to powershute and remove it, and then retry.
becuase I am still baffled. never else seen the error. (because so far, I dont have any traces of powershute or APC software.. )
Im still a bit pissed by the ammount of bugs in the APC's site that prevents to do a lot of stuff.

Im gonna quote the following Mr. Winna, because you clearly just skiped reading and went straight to reply:
I said:
1.- "+Vista X64 detects my UPS as a normal battery. with very limited options to control it+ ) ."
2.- " +I find it extrange.. also the UPS is detected as "HID UPS Battery+"
In short words, I didnt had Powershute on this installation ( I had reinstalled Vista once, but never installed powershute again on this installation, we're talking about a CLEAN installation, also Windows detects the battery as "HID UPS Battery"(just like I said before.. ) also detects the battery charge %
and accepts the diferent types of power saving options.
so thats why Im asking for help here.. I find it very rare ( I did look around for help before coming here.. and considering the APC's support center page is not working very well... it keeps me in a infinite loop of trying to login and then asks for login again because Im not login, or forcing me register an account even when im already loged in.)

hi,
i would personally manually remove APC powerchute personal edition before starting to install it again to make sure its completely removed.
[take a look at this thread and be sure to read the disclaimers before attempting this procedure to manually remove PCPE 2.2 if its still lingering|http://forums.apc.com/spaces/15/universal-transfer-switch/forums/general/5086/warranty-coverage-help...]
i would then try to see if you can get Vista native options to work so then we make sure Vista handles/detects the UPS correctly. it should be detected as an UPS HID battery. then after you verify that, see if you can reinstall powerchute personal edition 2.2 and see what happens from there.

ok, i must have misunderstood. i wasn't sure if you had RESTORED or REPAIRED Vista, and thus kept all the programs that had been installed to it prior - meaning powerchute 2.1.1. Vista still shows the UPS as a battery whether you are using powerchute or not so it was not clear what your situation was so I apologize if it came off as if I didn't read it because i certainly did.
i agree it is strange and I thought there was some pieces of powerchute when it said "rolling back the installation..." I have never seen that before and dont use vista day to day so is it an error coming from the powerchute installer or Windows Vista itself saying that its essentially stopping the powerchute installation?
