Has anyone had any trouble (conflicts) running Power Chute on Mac OS 10.4.11? I've been using Power Chute 1.3.4 (the latest version for my configuration) since it was released in 2006, but now a tech seems to think it MAY* be causing the occasional system freezes I've been experiencing for the past month or so. The only other peripherals attached to my G4 are two Firewire drives, a printer, a cable modem and a router, and after the computer passed hardware tests and the boot drive was even reformatted, the tech seems pretty confident it might be the UPS software.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!

With OSX 10.4.x and 10.5.x Apple has it's own Pref Panel for UPS's and it works fine with the APC UPS's via USB. Powerchute is not required.

My Intel Mac Pro recognizes my APS USP and seems to be able to close down (hopefully, tho this is not documented) all open files, followed by all running applications, followed by a system close-down. How do I make the other Intel macs on my Ethernet LAN close down in a similar fashion?
Ia the Equinux APC Power Tracker the answer.
Anticipating your replies with gratitude. APC does not provide much support or documentation for Mac systems. I couldn't find a single reference to "Mac" Or "OS 10.x" in any of the documentations that came with my UPS Model: Smart-UPS 1500 FW:653.18.1 USB FW-7.4. Thank Goodness Apple provides some support.

Gareth,
Good day, hope is well on your end. For Macintosh computers running on Intel processors we take into consideration what kind of Macintosh Operating System and the Intel that is loaded on your machine. For Macintosh OS X Server and Client, PowerChute Network Shutdown has been tested to work with them but again you will need to check first if the one that you have falls under our tested environments.
To view our compatibility chart please click here --> [PowerChute Network Shutdown Compatibility Chart|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/SJHN-7AYQNP_R17_EN.pdf]. Take note of the different versions that we have 2.2.4 and 2.2.3. The Mac OS that we support and the processors that has been tested (i.e OS X Server and Client 10.4.11, Apple Intel Dual, Apple G5 and Apple Intel).

Was this an APC tech you spoke with? Have you tried removing any additional USB devices/cables from your Mac? We do not commonly see cases where PCPE freezes up Macs.
If the freezes are predictable or common enough, I would just uninstall PowerChute and see if the problem continues. In the meantime the Mac Native UPS support is just as good as PowerChute in pretty much all respects, and there are a few open-source options as well (not supported or offered by APC).

Thanks, Erasmus.
No, it wasn't an APC tech, it was a Mac tech, after I explained that my only peripherals are two Firewire drives, a cable modem and router on Ethernet, and an inkjet printer and the APC UPS on USB.
However, after posting here, I emailed APC's Support Team to ask if Power Chute 1.3.4 was compatible with Mac OS 10.4.11, they said it was not. As you did, they also suggested I just use the Mac's native UPS options, so I've uninstalled Power Chute.
It hasn't been specifically determined that it was causing the system freezes, but now that Power Chute has been uninstalled, I'll wait and see how things go.
Thanks again for the help!
