Power Chute 3.0 not coming out of hibernation

I have an APC ES550 on a Vista sp2 PC, I only have my PC and Monitor plugged in to this unit. I was running Power Chute 2.2 for several months and I had the balanced power setting for it and because power chute stated it need to have the hibernation enabled to work properly. I left it that way because there is no documentation otherwise.I just updated power chute to v3.0 and since then I am having a problem with the PC not coming out of hibernation. If I uplug it and plug it back in to APC it still won't come out of hibernation, I have to remove it from the APC and plug them directly to the wall socket. I contacted APC Chat Session and went through their steps and then was told that Vista was diabling the USB controller and that the problem was not with Power Chute but was with the operating system and they could not or would not answer the question why was it working with v 2.2 and not with v3.0. Also I can not find anywhere that v3.0 needs to have the hibernation enabled, so for the time being I have disabled it. If hibernation needs to be disabled why isn't it stated. Is any oneelse having this problem?

Hey JonPro, I have an ES550G - There is nothing on the update page to indicate that PCPE 3.0 should not be used with the ES550G or that there are any issues with it if used with the G issue. I still think this should be stated, if had been I wouldn't have used it. Until I know for sure that v3.0 isn't compatible with the 550G series then I will persue my problem. Thanks for the input. Carole

Hi Carole,

What is the exact model number and firmware version of your UPS? The firmware can be retrieved on the Technical Data page of PowerChute while the model number is located at the back or underneath the UPS. Also, what is the exact version of your Vista machine? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit? How do you disable/ enable the hibernation? Does it enter hibernation due to the UPS running on battery or do you manually put it on hibernation mode?

I would like to know as well if you did an upgrade or a clean installation of PCPE 3.0.

I havean ES550 Firmware 843.k2.d. I did a clean install of PCPE 3.0. I have a Vista Ultimate SP2 32Bit. I am using the power scheme in Windows and actually it is optioned to turn the monitor off after 30 mins.of idle time and put the PC to Sleep after 1 hour of idle time. I had it optioned this way ever since I got the APC about 6 months ago and have had power outages and it worked fine when I was using PCPE 2.2. PCPE 3.0 is doing the same thing with a Window XP Pro SP3 32Bit. If I wake it up shortly after the 1 hour it wakes up ok but if I don't touch it for about 4 hours or leave it overnight then I cannot wake it up. Im trying to work with APC Email support but so far Ihaven't gotten an answer. I believe it is a bug in the new version and not an operating system problem as I was told by the APC Chat personnel.

Are you using a BE550G or a BE500R? If you are using an old Back-UPS ES 550, using PCPE 2.2 should be fine. PCPE 3.0 was designed to utilize the feature of the new Back-UPS Green Series.
