Offensive Smell from APC Back-UPS BX2200MI-MS.

My 2-day old APC Back-UPS BX2200MI-MS is exuding a foul metallic-plastic odour during operation. Is this a VOC that could cause cancer under prolong use?

The unit should have no smell at all so suggest you contact APC Technical Support to identify the root cause. 

If the odour is that obvious the unit will be replaced once you initiate a RMA.

Have the serial number, receipt, and brief description of the problem upon contact.

So you (presumably a representative of Schneider Electric?) acknowledge that APC Back-UPS emit VOC that is harmful to health under prolong exposure? The technical staff, and everyone, from the retailer where I bought the unit denied any known emission of VOC from Schneider's APC. As such, it will be futile to bring in my unit for inspection knowing the retailer is not prepared to admit there is a problem.

How am I going to resolve this thorny issue?

No, I do not work or represent APC / Schneider Electric. 

Your choices are to replace the unit via RMA and have this issue logged and hopefully addressed by APC Technical Support so this problem can be investigated and solved.

The more likely solution for you is to return the hardware for a refund and purchase another brand / unit for your personal use.

As it relates to VOC, my previous reply was to offer insight and affirm some of the conditions that may impact a persons health.
