Hi
I have installed a new UPS - SMC1500IC , purchased from Amazon in April 2024. After failing a self-test
it now reports ' Replace battery'. I Un-plugged the battery and re-attached and did the battery self test
it passed - everything was fine . Now again after a few weeks the logs say replace battery .
I have attached the document which may help diagnose as I don't think the battery is at fault?
Not sure what the issue is ?
Thanks

I would encourage you to submit a service request with APC Technical Support. Given the unit is under warranty and they could determine if the battery or unit is faulty.
In either case they would send out a replacement battery or entire unit if deemed necessary.
In the interim they would ask you to provide the logs for active faults / errors seen by the system. You can provide the same here for peer review if you like to see if anything is obvious.
There are two logs one pertains to the systems state like the error message for a replace battery. The other log tracks the various metrics of input / output voltage, frequency, load, battery capacity, battery voltage, temperature, etc.
APC Technical Support may also instruct you to complete a Brain Dead procedure that is specific to your model UPS.
You can search for Brain Dead or Reset On YouTube as to how the two procedures are initiated and completed. Keep in mind the above procedure does NOT resolve a bad / weak battery! ☝️
The only purpose of completing the reset / brain dead process is to narrow down and eliminate the unit is in some unknown state. The brain dead process will clear the internal MCU to a known state.
Lastly, APC Technical Support will ask you to read off the sticker on the battery cartridge. This will help them determine the production date of the cell. You / They may very well find out the battery inside the system is very old and due to just sitting on a shelf is not healthy do to self discharge.
So take a photo of the serial number of the UPS, battery cartridge, and purchase receipt.
Let us know how things turn out and what remedy is needed to resolve the issue. 👍

Hi , thanks for your detailed reply . I will log a ticket with technical support as you suggested in the first instance now as the unit is only a few months old . Also thanks for the extra information regarding what I would need to get a service request logged with APC technical support .
