I have two HP DL 380 G6 servers. One is running VMware 6.0 and the other is running Ubuntu 16. I connected a BackUPS XS 1200 (via USB) to the server running Ubuntu and the host immediately recognized it. Can you please advise which version of APC software I should use to configure shutdown of the Ubuntu sever, and whether or not I can issue an ssh command from Ubuntu to the ESX server when the Ubuntu server initiates a power induced shutdown?
Note: I tried the ESX version of the software but it explicitly stated that it did not work with the "free" version of ESX, so I moved the UPS to the other server. Thanks very much.
GS

Thanks for the reply. While waiting for your reply I did some research and found the NUT (Network UPS Tools) suite that should do everything I need (http://networkupstools.org/).

Hi,
PowerChute Personal Edition is supported with a Back-UPS however it is Windows OS only. Check out APUPSD for Ubuntu. It is not officially supported however many users are running APCUPSD on Ubuntu with success. Also, APCUPSD can be configured to run a script that you could write to power down the ESXi server.
