Hi,
I am looking to buy an entry level ups and wondering if there is any guide which I can refer to choose one ups for my need.
The GUIDE should explain what all UPS specifications are and how they affect while using.
What specification I should consider depending on various need (e.g. what should be VA rating that I need to consider depending on load being connected)
I would also like to know about how would be the power consumption when I attach my equipment through UPS.
Will it consume same (or maybe little more) power as the attached load? or Will it consume the default power (which is consumption of UPS) irrespective of attached load?
I understand that power consumption would be more while UPS is charging batteries within it but what would be the power consumption when batteries are fully charged?
Does this depend on the model I choose? What factor I should look for better power efficiency?
Apart from above, is there any entry level UPS with computer interface that is known to be supported on Linux? For say auto shutdown when UPS battery critical.
I am situated in India and any suggestion about the entry level model (with or without computer interface) available here would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ashish

Hi ashishks, I am not aware of a single guide that will answer all of those questions to be honest. You best bet may be to call in to tech support at 1 800 800 4272 and speak with one of the techs so they can go over a solution with you. The power consumption will depend greatly on which specific UPS we are dealing with so a model number will help answer that question. Our Powerchute network shutdown software will work with more distro's of linux and the agent version of powerchute business edition will work with linux disto's as well. Hope this help.
