Model APC 650VA (Black)- is there a mass production problem?

Our Company a Call center business ordered 300 units of this APC model to replace our old APC RS 500 units. We were very disappointed to know that after a month of use we found out it can’t support our old PCs with CRT Monitors. I mean it did not kick in to supply back up power to our PCs in times of power fluctuations. And the bad thing about this model is the annoying long beep sound that occurs every time it fails to backups. Another bad thing is the power button; it’s like a cheap toy button that easily breakup. I like the rubberized button of our old APC RS 500. I just want to know if there were glitches in production of this kind of model because almost half of our units were tagged as defective. Right now we ordered another UPS Liebert Brand and it works well with our Units with CRT monitors the Liebet model is PSA500mt3 with 500VA/650VA. Why is this more reliable than our most known Brand APC specifically 650VA Black see attached picture model thanks! Please… please I need info.

I am not familiar nor have I heard of any mfg. defects or known problems with this particular model, but then again this is an international unit and most of our support here on the forums is for North America O:)

Could you describe the behavior of the UPS LEDs when they failed to back up your load?

Also...I see that the Liebert unit you described is a 120v in/out UPS that supports 50/60hz output. This is entirely different than the BR650CI, which is 230v 50/60hz input, with 230v 50hz output (when on battery/during an outage). I'd like some more detail on your load power requirements before moving forward with saying that your UPS' actually have a problem.

Thank you very much sir for the reply... im from ASIA Philippines.

During a power failure the UPS led indicator just went off together with the PC and AVAYA phone, then a long beep sound will be heard from the UPS unit. What we do is we need to unplugged first the power cables from the UPS then after we turn it on and wait for the led indicator to become stable first before we reconnect all the connections. We do this because if we just turn on the UPS with the PC power cables connected it will just went off and make a long beep sound again. This is why every time there is a power fluctuation we just freak out because of this.

By the way we use all the three power slots for backups aside form the surge slot. The Dell CRT monitor, Dell GX280, and an AVAYA IP phone are the Hardware we used to connect for backups.

Sir am i right that the reason why our APC 650VA is because it only support 50hz output when on battery during an outage and Leibert can support us because of the 50hz-60hz output?

Thanks again and god bless

The symptom you described sounds like an overload on battery. Have you tried a power simulation with a smaller load?

The BR650CI is 230v input, and accepts either 50/60hz frequency in. It is 230v out (online and on batt) and 50hz out only.

Depending on your Liebert PSA500MT3 unit, it is either 120v 50/60hz input and output (domestic 120U model) or a 230v UPS, which output is set for 50/60hz depending on input from mains. The Liebert website doesn't describe whether the UPS can be set for 50/60 when on battery, so I would ask that you check on this. This will depend on the exact model # of the Liebert UPS. Overall there don't seem to be too many differences between the PSA500MT3 line and our BR line of units. I would check the liebert.com website vs. our website and make sure our unit matches you're requirements. To answer your answer shortly, yes the BR650CI only supports 50hz out when on battery.
