Method for figuring time remaining on battery?
I’m interested in knowing how APC Powerchute Personal Edition in conjunction with the UPS determines amount of time remaining on battery. I can think of two methods that might be used. While I’m sure there are many variants, it’s probably true that APC uses something that is closer to one of these than to the other:
Voltage Driven: The voltage of the battery is monitored and maybe adjusted by the load to determine how much time remains on the battery.
Current Driven: The current is integrated over time on battery to determine how much charge has been taken from the battery. This is basically coulomb counting.
I’m interested in this for the following UPS Backups: BN1100M2 and BX1000M. Does anyone know whether the method used looks more like a voltage driven or a current driven method?
