I only have a "!" symbol on the toolbar APC icon to tell me there is a problem. I can't find anything within the program to help with it. What do I do ? Thanks

What version of the APC software are you currently running? What OS (I assume a version of Windows) is the software running on? Have you checked the device manager to see if there is an ! under any of your Hhuman Interface Device (HID)/USB device names/listings?
When you hover over the toolbar icon, is there a pop-up summary of what the issue is?
Can you take a few screenshots of each page of the software and attach them here to the thread so that we can look and see if anything seems out of place? Thanks.

Running Vista, Power Chute Personal Ed. 2.1.1. Same problem--reinstall did not help. I takes about 10 minutes before the APC UPS service stops running. Is this some administrator privilege problem perhaps?

can you provide all of the details in the text box of the following image? right now we can only see the top half.
i will ask of this in your email incident too since i know you are working via that method as well.
also, any other details as far as your system information that you haven't yet provided - perhaps more of the information from System Information in Windows could be provided?
a triple core processor hasnt been tested so we are looking into this..

Hi Doug,
You need to set the APC UPS service to Automatic in order for it to start automatically when you reboot the Computer.
To do this:
Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Administrative tools-->Services-->Locate the APC UPS service to set it to Automatic.
I hope that this helps.

Found this mentioned in previous release versions of PowerChute and in our "issue logging" system:
K. On Windows 2000, 2003 or XP, PowerChute reports "Managed PC
Shutdown cannot be provided":
Users who log onto their system using accounts with restricted
privileges might see this displayed. However, despite the message,
a managed shutdown is provided during an extended power problem.
Make sure you are logging in with full admin privileges on the PC.
Also, not sure if this was stated before but make sure the APC UPS service is starting when you reboot your computer, or just start it manually.
