I've used APC's higher end products at work for a decade, so I was kind of surprised when I purchased a small back-ups unit for my home workstation and found they don't have software support for Linux. I'm running Ubuntu, and looking for suggestions for software to connect to my BX1000G over its USB interface. The USB connectivity seems fine - `lsusb` shows it properly identified. I've seen the open source "apcupsd" app and that looks interesting. What else have you all used and had success with?
Does APC have plans to make software for these lower end home office units available for Linux? There're a lot of us out here, and frankly, the sort of folks who are likely to care enough to buy a UPS for their home machines tend to be the sort of folks who are more likely to run Linux, too. 🙂
Thanks!

Well, for what it's worth, I run Ubuntu on my laptop and workstations as do most of my coworkers and friends.
I also use CentOS extensively at work, and on my personal servers.
Those are probably the most widely used distributions at this point, and CentOS is compatible with RHEL and Fedora for the most part.

thanks for your feedback. i checked the software team that handles this product and they told me we suggest using APCUPSD with this particular OS and the Back-UPS. We are looking to support different versions of Linux with our Back-UPS in the future but as of today we have not completed our review of which versions we will support and we have not set a release date.
