Or does it really require it? I'd like to use it as a power surge protector. I couldn't find the answer in the manual.
I hope it can be done. Thank you for reading and hopefully answering. 🙂

It has been my experience that the setting to disable the beeper in software on these models doesn't "stick". PowerChute is probably the easiest way to make the adjustment if you're running Windows. As best I remember, apcupsd can also do the job, and I think Network UPS Tools could also take care of it.
If you leave the battery backed outlets turned off, the "surge only" outlets will continue to function and provide surge suppression. This reduces the number of outlets available, but maybe you don't need that many to start with.

Hi Ant,
The BE550G can be used without the battery, however there will be a continuous Replace Battery audible and LED notification going on as this UPS was not designed for only surge protection (we have other products intended for surge protection only). To try and mute the audible alerts, you can install PowerChute Personal Edition on a PC and set up communication with the UPS.

Ah, I have to disable its annoying audible alerts with PowerChute PE. Is it only with APC's PowerChute and not third parties?
