Is my Back UPS PRO RS BR1000MS "dead"?
Good Morning,
Looking for advice. First some details regarding my APC UPS:
2/14/21 purchase date w/o extended warranty Back UPS PRO RS BR1000MS S/N 4B2046P14111 F/W 950.e4.D Mod# BR1000MS
Yesterday afternoon we had a 2 and 1/2 hour power outage where the UPS worked as expected. I shut down the PC and monitor and only had the router/modem on backup for continued WiFi in the house for cell phones, etc.
The UPS continued to provide power during the outage without issue and utility power was restored.
Later that evening during continued windy conditions, there were the occasional utility AC power fluctuations acknowledged by the UPS "clicking" over to backup as expected, and these were very; brief, maybe 1 to 2 seconds, like a "brown-out", however, there was one unusually loud "pop" and all devices on the UPS lost power.
UPS now won't power on. Reset-able fuse on back of UPS doesn't seem to be tripped but does seem "loose" as it can be pressed in about 1/8th inch, but comes back out.
I've removed the UPS batteries and tried following some reset instructions involving holding power button for 10 seconds while batteries disconnected. UPS won't power on with or without batteries.
Thank you for reaching out to the SE Community, my name is Jon and I will assist you with this query. I am sorry to hear about the issue that you've experienced with the UPS.
Based on the description that you have provided, I can say that the UPS has sacrificed itself to prevent surge/spike to penetrate and cause damage to the attached load.
The serial number tells me that it was manufactured on the 46th work week of 2020. I suggest that you reach out to our Technical Support covering your country to check the warranty of the UPS and possible replacement.
