Installed wrong firmware on NMC3

Hi everyone,

I have installed the wrong firmware on the NMC3. Web-UI not able to logon return "The Application is Incompatible with This APC OS"

Tried to re-install update the latest firmware "apc_hw21_su_2-5-0-6.nmc3" through SCP or FTP but failed with "Firmware distribution does not match target device platform; this could be due to a corrupt distribution"

The model of UPS is Dell Smart-UPS SRT 5000VA.

Dell-branded SKU is "DLRT5KRMXLT", checked that same model as "SRT5KRMXLT"

Now only able to logon by SSH command. What can I do to fix this? Thank you PFU

If you haven’t done so already I would suggest you reach out to APC Technical Support in your region. I don’t personally know if a Dell branded UPS is any different (Can’t see that being the case) compared to a APC unit.

But ask them if there are any software / firmware differences. If so, have them identify them and relay the same information on the forum.

Assuming there is no differences in firmware you have a couple of options. You can format the NMC as outlined by the APC FAQ. Doing so would reset the NMC unit to a factory default state and wipe all user settings. ☝️

Keep in mind you’ll need to have the correct firmware for your specific UPS model on hand so it can be uploaded to the NMC.

APC Technical Support should be able to walk you through the entire process. Along with sending you a direct link or file

for the correct NMC firmware. 👍

NOTE: Ensure you have both of the APC proprietary serial cables on hand. You should have a DB9 -> RJ50 (10 Pin) that connects to the UPS or the DB9 -> 2.5 mm barrel Jack for the NMC.

APC Technical Support may guide you to use the CLI to default the NMC first or may instruct you to issue the format command. Defaulting the NMC will not resolve having the wrong firmware installed!

Let us know how it all turns out. 🤟

I did the exact same thing and so far have not been able to change the Application Module firmware. I plan on opening a ticket myself but if you resolve your issue please post it here. Thank you and have a great day.

Thank you Teken! I was able to reload the correct firmware back to UPS by use Tera-term through terminal with micro-usb cable connecting to UPS.  : )
