And I found one, except it was shaped completely different. Not the small black box, but the old tall white model. It had a LCD on it though. And instead of 8 plugs, it had 10, only 5 battery back uped, and three seemingly the sort that shuts off automatically.
Is there any information on this? Are they discontinuing the old black box style? What is this new one? I am lost.

Yes, you can purchase an APC PDU or you can also purchase an "APC Surgre Protector" to connect more equipment to the UPS.

{color}{color:#000000}This information is incorrect! This unit has AVR Boost ONLY!!! I purchased two of these units based on the product information on the web site. As this post verifies, APC is not very good at keeping product information straight!!!
After much complaining, the product page has been updated to reflect the correct information. I wonder how many purchasers believe that they have both boost and trim. In the past I always purchased Tripp Lite units and wish I did again. By the time I realized this issue it was to late to return them.
A very disappointed customer that will not be giving APC good recommendations, Bob{color}

Well it is not so much about what I need, just what is available around me. The devices I am plugging into this unit are low-power units. But I have never seen any kind of large selection of APC units in any stores nearby, and APC is a retailer friendly company so order off your site has me paying much, much more. This device is a rather nice looking one, and I want to like it, but it's design has me baffled.
Do you think, if I needed more, I could plug in a power strip?

I believe that you have found the BX1500G which is a new retail model. Click on the below link to view the BX1500G technical specification.
BX1500G Highlights:
Power-saving outlets: Automatically cuts power to idle equipment to conserve electricity.
Boost and Trim(AVR): Gives higher application availability by correcting low and high voltage conditions without using the battery.
Enhanced LCD display
More types of data line surge
Mute Button-Allows the users to disable the audible alarm.
I was told that the New Back UPS Pro series will replace the current Back UPS RS/XS Models in the market.

Yes, this unit uses an enhanced LCD display and it is accurate to monitor the UPS. This unit offers (5) NEMA 5-15R Battery Backup outlets and (5) NEMA 5-15R surge protection outlets. The BX1500G UPS is one of the Next Generation Back UPS Pro UPSs.
The Master Controlled outlet is used to conserve when your Computer is not in use. To conserve electricity, You can configure the Back-UPS to recognize a Master device, such as a desktop computer or an A/V receiver, and Controlled peripheral devices, such as a printer, speakers, or a scanner. When the Master device goes into Sleep or Standby mode, or turns OFF, the Controlled device(s) will shut down as well, saving electricity.
The BX1500G UPS output power capacity is 865 Watts / 1500 VA. If you want to provide power to more than 5 equipment in the event of power failure, you may purchase additional UPS or look for another APC Product line which meets your need. APC does offer other UPS solution for our Customers which can offer more battery backup outlets. Please be aware that the size of the UPS which you require depends upon how many equipment you plug in. The UPS will be overloaded in case if the equipment you plug in to the battery backup outlets exceed the UPS rated capacity. Therefore, please make use of the APC selector link to size a UPS which satisfies your need.

Can anyone explain to me more about this product?
Are there only five battery backup slots? What are the Master and Slave slots for? I'd like more than just 5 battery backup slots ideally, if I wanted a surge protector I wouldn't be spending 200 dollars. I just have a few things on my rack I'd like to plug into this, and only 5 slots handicaps that, unless I can somehow plug in an adapter, which I believe voids my warranty. But if they give me no other choice...
Is the LCD screen more accurate? Is the product an improvement?

The K-Base ID: 1372 says:
APC recommends against the use of any surge protector, power strip or extension cord being plugged into the output of any APC Back-UPS and Smart-UPS products. This document will explain why.
Plugging a surge protector into your UPS: Surge protectors filter the power for surges and offer EMI/RFI filtering but do not efficiently distribute the power, meaning that some equipment may be deprived of the necessary amperage it requires to run properly causing your attached equipment (computer, monitor, etc) to shutdown or reboot. If you need to supply additional receptacles on the output of your UPS, we recommend using Power Distribution Units (PDU's). PDUs evenly distribute the amperage among the outlets, while the UPS will filter the power and provide surge protection. PDUs use and distribute the available amperage more efficiently, allowing your equipment to receive the best available power to maintain operation.
Maintaining EPP and Warranty:
Plugging any non-APC surge protector, power strip, or extension cord into the output of an APC brand UPS could void your Equipment Protection Policy (EPP). However, the standard 2 year product warranty is maintained. If, after taking into consideration this knowledge base document, you choose to use an APC brand surge protector in conjunction with your APC brand UPS, your warranty and Equipment Protection Policy will be maintained.

So if I need more battery-back up plugs, I can purchase an APC PDU unit, and I should not harm my system in any way?

Hi,
I am having a similar issue with lack of available UPS outlets. I am willing to purchase another BX1500G. So, can I control both units from the same computer with Power Chute Personal Edition?
Thanks, Bob

Bob,
Unfortunately, two USB Back UPSs can not be monitored on a single Computer at the same time. However, the BX1500G UPS's LCD display allows users to view the UPS status, runtime, load percentage etc., So I would monitor the BX1500G status through its LCD display.
