How to include Adobe software in Shutdown Sequence?

In the case of power failure, I need my Smart-UPS to gracefully shutdown additional applications to the OS, applications that are NOT on the list in the Configure Shutdown Sequence, in particular my Adobe applications such as Flash, Premier, Photoshop etc...

I would appreciate any assistance..

thanks.

If opening/running the command file is what you need, then you can highlight it and press Enter or you could double click on it. If you would like to see what is on the command file or edit it then you could right click on it and choose Edit or open up a text editor and load the file from there.

I apologize for the confusion.

well, if you need to gracefully stop those services, keep in mind that the shutdown of the OS (on Windows anyway) is just like if you went to the Start Menu and chose shutdown. if this will not work, you'd most likely have to write a command file on your own and execute it before that server shuts down.

Hi Minimal,

The only solution that I can think of for now is for you to create a script that would shutdown or close those applications. Unfortunately I haven't tried it yet since I do not have this kind of applications installed on my computer.

You could probably use Google to see if there are available shutdown scripts for those applications.

Please be aware that if you are going to use script, PowerChute Business Edition can only run a single line command file. In the event that you have multi line command file you will need to create a single line command file that would call the multi line command file.

Once you have created the command file, you will need to save it on the PCBE command file folder and then use the Console-Shutdown Settings and select it from there. Below are some APC Knowledgebase article that discusses about command file.

Thank you for your reply.

When the OS is shut then the Adobe programs that are open will be force quit - not very graceful; when i got my APC Smart-UPS i actually assumed that it would shut these programs as well.

Unfortunately, i am unfamiliar with programming these kinds of scripts so I will google shutdown scripts for Adobe software but would appreciate any assistance in finding scripts as such, possibly Adobe Premier, Flash etch users other than myself are on this forum too.....

In any case, I will post a thread on the Adobe forums for these kind of scripts.

Assuming that i do get my hands on a shutdown script as such and have it on my computer, would i then simply refer to it via the configure Shutdown Sequence dialog?

Hi JonPro.

Never mind creating a multi-lined cmd file, I just tested the default command file in the Confugure Shutdown Sequence dialog, but nothing.!!

I then tried opening that default command file on my hard disc, but it does not open; I figured it's an xml file that ought to open in Dreamweaver if not as a simple text file.

I looked at the link you provided. It seems that i need to manually activate the cmd file, but also to create a command file on my own, for it to work however, i do NOT know how to create a command file. Can you send a link for that, or explain here?

And, can you please say why the default.cmd does NOT open?

thanks.

JonPro hi.

i'd like to fill you in on develops on my end. First though, to reiterate: the default command file will NOT open when double-clicked and when right-clicked it does NOT offer any alternative program to open with, and nor wil notepad open it. Have you any ideas?

And, I contacted APC tech folks here in Israel because of communication failure between the Smart-UPS adn my desktop. They decided that the software that i received with the UPS - APC PowerChute Business Edition Deluxe is causing communication failure because the software complicates things in demanding an SMTP configuration.

So, they offered to test PowerCHute version 8 on a system like mine - Windows 7 64 bit, and send me it if it works.

let me know what you think.

thanks.

I have loaded PCBE on my end and opened up default.cmd using notepad. Basically thee default.cmd contains a simple guide on what should be done with command file. I have attached the screenshot on this post so that you can view it.

Unfortunately, we do not support creation of command files. The only thing that we could offer you is the guide found on the kbase.

to open cmd and bat files dont double click them, rather right-click+Edit.

that was easy. So why not simply mention it!

The guide at kbase is more confusing than elucidating; and it is incorrect.

APC is a great disappointment folks!
