I have a Dell T710 server with Win2008 R2 and a BackUPS XS1300. The UPS is connected to the server via USB.
During a power outage, Windows gets the signal to shutdown when the battery gets low, and this works great. Unfortunately, when line power is returned the server does not power back on.
I have set the BIOS AC Power Recovery setting to ON...which means the server should boot itself when line power is restored. However, since Windows does a graceful shutdown the load on the UPS goes to almost zero....so the battery is never fully depleted. Thus, the server never really loses line power and the BIOS never initiates a startup.
Is there some way to work around this? Does APC have drivers that work on Win2008 and the BackUPS devices?

Hi Doug Clutter, unfortunately APC does not have any software or firmware that will interact with a computers bios, or that would allow for the cold boot of the system. If there is a complete power loss, the ups should complete its graceful shutdown, wait its require shutoff delay and then power the ups off. When power is then restored to the ups, it will power itself back on (which should then in turn power your servers back given the correct bios settings). Hope this helps.
