I'm trying to figure out how to split the data cable from my Back-Ups RS 1500 to both my readynas and my imac.
The unit has a data port (ethernet) that terminates into usb.
I've tried plugging an ethernet cable into the data port but the RS 1500 doesn't seem to be network ready.
I then tried to plug the data line into my usb hub and share the connection that way; didn't work, neither unit could recognize.
I bought this larger model hoping to share it, but didn't realize that was harder than I thought.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hi Chris,
I would definitely suggest a Smart UPS for you. I would like to know what is the technical specification of the Readynas NV+ that you are using and as well the iMac?If you can provide the information below for both equipment, it would be great!

How much runtime you expect from the unit?
Thanks!

Attila,
The Back UPS RS 1500 UPS can be used to communicate with only one Computer or Server at a time via the RJ45 to USB cable. Unfortunately, this unit can not shutdown multiple PCs or machines gracefully in the event of power failure. Thus, there is no way to share the Back UPS RS 1500 to shutdown your Server and MAC system gracefully at a time through APC Power Chute software.
[APC Smart UPS SUA family|http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=165&ISOCountryCode=US] UPSs are designed to shutdown multiple servers during power failure. Please click on the below link for more information.

I recommend you to call in the APC sales team at 1-800-800-4272 to discuss your requirment so that they can recommend a UPS solution for you.
I hope that this helps.

Attila,
I think you could try buy something USB splitter. If I am correct, that is different from the USB hub. The USB hub "takes" all the USB and sends them through an other USB. But in your case, you want to do somethign like a "reversed hub". I think you need something like this

Have fun!

The Back UPS in question is a simple signaling UPS which uses a single communication bus to talk to the Computer. I am sorry to say that the USB splitter or any unofficial stuffs won't work.

Quick follow up question:
Would the APC BH500NET HS 500VA allow me to connect the APC unit to my ethernet network and then connect my server and my pc?
I'm hoping to find a reasonably priced network apc product that will allow my server and pc to shutdown when the power goes out.
Thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,
What kind of server do you have?
Back UPS HS can be managed over the network which is its unique feature. However, if you are planning to have a server connected to it, you might want to use a Smart UPS. Most of the servers require a Pure Sine wave which a Smart UPS provides and that makes it more compatible with almost all type of loads, while a Back UPS HS provides a step approximated sine wave.

Hello,
I've got a Readynas NV+ and an iMac. I think you're right most people use a smart ups but the price point of this one and the physical profile both attracted me. I'm afraid I'm getting in over my head on the sine wave and will have to go with whatever you think is best.
Thanks for your help!
Chris
