Got A Weird One: SUA1500 Replace Battery Blinking/Chirping -- Battery is Fine at 100%

Came into the studio and heard chirping. Took me 20 minutes to locate where it was coming from because of the high frequency sound bouncing around.

Replace Battery light is blinking fast: 0.5 sec. interval.

Chirp is slower at 2 sec. interval.

Battery Charge LEDs are off during the blinking.

Periodically, the Replace Battery LED goes out, the chirping stops and the Battery Charge LEDs show 5 green, as if nothing was amiss.

That lasts for a while and the cycle repeats.

The longer the UPS is powering the CPUs and Monitors the time between cycles grows.

(The Replace Battery on time stays the same but the off time increases.)

Did a cold reset (Unplug everything and hit the Off Button until the LEDs flash.) No Change.

Ran PowerChute Serial Shutdown (mostly to turn off the chirping) and assessed the battery condition.

100% - 27.8 VDC

Load: 31.7%

Runtime Remaining 47 minutes

Temp: 25.6 C / 78.1 F

120.2 VAC, 60 Hz

BUT when the Replace Battery LED is blinking PSS shows "No Batteries Attached". It isn't weak, it's just gone... then it comes back.

So, the battery isn't really in need of replacing. Pulled the battery and brightened up the connector contacts, not that they needed that. It would seem that there is something on the motherboard that has a momentary contact. If I put another battery in there it wouldn't change things. Thoughts?

What is the date of the last battery installation?!? What is the production date on the battery cartridge?!?

The service life is 2-5 years based on usage, temperature, and environmental conditions. ☝️

Manually initiate a grid down / lights out test by removing AC Mains while the normal load’s are attached.

What happens upon doing so and what is the operational runtime?

As stated, the battery isn't the issue. The UPS is/isn't seeing that it is there. As for the runtime, that is listed in the post: 47 minutes. Doing anything that requires the unit go on-battery and the unit decides during that time that the battery is suddenly not there will lead to really bad stuff.

The battery is at 100% charge and then (from the UPS's perspective) it is 0% (not installed), and then it is back to 100% , and then it is back to 0% , and then it is back to 100% , and then it is back to 0% and on and on and on.

I'm looking for pointers on what to look for when I open the UPS up and what components may be bad that would cause this and need replacing. Could be as simple as a cold solder joint. Could be bad caps.
