Firmware Update Smart-UPS 3000 (ID18)
Hello!
We have a Smart-UPS 3000 (SMT3000RMI2U) in use. Recently it has been reporting a critical alarm: “At least one faulty battery exists.”. I then unplugged the battery for 2 minutes and plugged it back in. After a manual self-test, the error disappeared and there was no more trouble. It should also be mentioned that the battery was replaced between 1 and 1.5 years ago. After the next scheduled self-test, the error was there again.
My next step would now be to update the firmware. The firmware revision shown is UPS 09.3 (ID18). According to this (_ttps://www.se.com/de/de/download/document/Smart-UPS_FW_Release_Notes/), the correct and current update would be “SMT18UPS_15-0.enc”. In the corresponding PDF it says:
“Applicable Models: ================== Smart-UPS SMT UPSs (except 1U) rated 0.75, 1 & 1.5 kVA with ID 18”
Our UPS states: “Apparent Power Rating 3000 VA” ...i in other words 3kVA.
Is there another update? Or is there no suitable update for this (I can hardly believe it)? Or can I install it anyway?
The NMC (AP9631) HWrev08 is already at version v7.1.8 from September 2024.
Many thanks for your help and have a nice weekend.

The average service life of the battery cartridge is 2-5 years. Based on usage, temperature, and environmental conditions.
Provide an image capture of the battery cartridge production sticker and the installation date from the NMC Configuration -> UPS tab.
The NMC will provide the serial number and production date of the UPS from the (About UPS) tab - provide it here.
Dynamic Test: Remove AC Mains from the system while under normal load and report back the results. There are only three possible outcomes during the lights out / grid down test.
Complete shutdown, limited operational runtime, acceptable operational runtime vs a new RBC.
Report back the results and outcome. A UPS Firmware upgrade is absolutely the last thing you need to even consider! ☝️
