Fairly old XS1300 F02 - Battery?

I've got an XS1300 (BX1300G - SN B1029X48929). I think it's about 5 or 6 years old.  It's always worked flawlessly, and I've never replaced the battery.  A couple of weeks ago, the power flickered and the equipment lost power (I wasn't here, but I was told the power flickered for a split second).  The other day, the Back-UPS started screaming at me and had the F02 code.  I turned it off and unplugged the Back-UPS and everything plugged into it.  I eventually went back and plugged everything back in and it worked for a bit, then after an hour or two it threw the F02 code again.

Tonight I plugged it in by itself and the battery went up to 80%.  I unplugged it and it shut down immediately.  I plugged it back in and then plugged a lamp in with an LED 11W bulb.  No issues.  I unplugged the UPS and it and the lamp shut down immediately, and after that shutdown, the battery level is showing 0%.

I'm leaning toward this just being a bad battery, but I don't want to buy a battery and then have to buy another UPS (especially since the new battery wouldn't fit the UPS that I'd be buying).

Is there a way to confirm that the issue is just the battery and not some other issue with the UPS?

Thanks

It would be more cost effective for you to dispose of the unit locally.

Most transfer Stations / Dumps have a location for battery recycling and electronics disposal, usually at no cost.

Hi Steve,

FO2  error is On battery output short, this means the battery is not able to output the power and there is something on the battery got short stopping it to output the power. I am sorry to say you need to replace the UPS rather then battery. You can contact technical support on 800-800-4272 for the recommended replacement.

Hmm, interesting.  OK.

I performed several pull the plug tests last night and never got an F02.

I left it plugged in all night but off so it could charge.  It showed a full charge this morning.  I plugged the lamp in and pulled the plug.  It immediately shutdown with an F02 again.

Hi Steve,

The F02 can be caused be a few things; a true Short at the Load, an old/weak internal battery or excessive load. I believe in your situation and considering the age of the battery, a simply battery replacement would suffice. That being said however, you take the chance that you only get a few more months out of the UPS before it fails completely. After 6yrs of service, the chances for a component failure increase exponentially. My advice would be to contact APC Sales and participate in their "Trade UPS" program. You will have the opportunity to trade in your old unit at a reduce price for the new replacement. You'll receive a NEW unit, NEW battery and a NEW 3yr warranty. A better investment!

Yeah, I had looked into that.  Sadly, it's cheaper to buy a new unit from the "mAjor online retailer" than it is to use the "Trade-UPS" program.  If I have to buy a new UPS, I would gladly send the old one with batteries back to APC if they cover shipping and they want it for recycling or whatever.
