HI there,
I have an almost exactly 2 year old ES-BE700G-UK UPS and over the last two days it's started behaving badly. Since Friday night (it's now Sunday morning) on 8 or 9 occasions it has made a short buzzing noise then powered down the battery backup sockets and started emitting an unpleasant high pitched tone. No lights lit on the box, which appears to suggest "Overload shutdown" but load has been low every time the alarm/failure has tripped - connected PC is off, only the NAS server (4-bay consumer model) and network switch (8 port consumer model) attached are powered up. Pressing the power button once kills the tone/alarm, pressing it again turns the UPS back on again, green light, attached devices power back up again.
Nothing in the environment of use has changed before and after - no new peripherals, nothing untoward in the supply that I know about. I'm loathe to blindly buy another battery for this as this is my second APC UPS, and the first one turned out to be faulty after I'd already shelled out for a replacement battery.
Gareth

Hi Gareth,
The short Buzzing sound you've described concerns be a bit. The BE700G-UK is what is called a Stand-BY UPS, which basically means it passes utility power until it senses some type of power anomaly at the source. Since it is a Stand-by UPS, it is incapable of sensing attached load until the UPS is forced to battery for one reason or another and attempts to actually support said load. This is when an Overload condition would be observed. What you've described sounds as if the UPS is attempting to switch to battery. I would describe this as a Beep however, not a buzz. I would ask if you could record the event, however that would likely be impossible to know when it may happen again.
I would instead recommend for testing purposes however that you remove all of the attached equipment from the unit, and unplug it from the wall. Does the unit switch to battery and beep? If so, I would plug it back in and attempt to connect equipment and try unplugging again. You will likely find that the unit enters an Overload condition at some point during your testing.
If the unit gives you a constant tone when unplugged from the wall and no equipment connected, it may be faulty. I would recommend contacting our technical support for further asistance.
