ES 750 / BE750G randomly crashes / cuts-power then restarts...

This was originally posted on APC forums on 11/10/2014

I have a Back UPS ES 750 Surge Protector / Backup Battery (model # BE750G).  I recently noticed that the unit will sporadically stop working / turn-off, even though it is plugged-in to the wall outlet.  All devices connected to the unit lose power, including my computer and music recording equipment.  After several seconds, the unit will power back on and my computer and electronics equipment will reboot.

The strange thing is that when this happens, it appears to happen at roughly the same time (approx 1-2PM CST). I have never noticed this happening in the evening or early morning.  Additionally, it does not seem to happen every day, but sometimes every other day or every couple of days (ex: it might happen 3 times in a given week, all around 1-2PM).

As far as I can tell, I do not lose power to any other part of the house. This seems to be completely isolated to the UPS unit.

Please advise what I can to to help troubleshoot or fix this issue.

Thanks!

I have a NEW BE750G that is doing the same thing although I haven't noticed that id shuts down at any particular time of the day. I have only had the unit for about 2 weeks. The S/N is 4B1517P52337. My computer shuts down and then when the UPS powers back on the computer reboots but has not yet shown the "computer shut town improperly" message although my browser (Google Chrome) will show the improper shutdown message if I was surfing the internet.

I do not have any of the software installed. I just took the unit out of the box and plugged my computer into the master outlet and my monitor into one of the controlled outlets. The unit also has a few other devices plugged into it but nothing very large, only things like router and speakers.

Hi,

Can you provide the first six characters of the serial number that is listed under the model number on the bottom of the unit? That will help with the age of the unit and the battery (assuming it has not been replaced).

I asked our resident Back-UPS expert who thought this sounded like a dead/dying battery. Thus, if something keeps happening on the circuit it is connected to, like a heating or AC unit kicking on a particular time a day, and the UPS wants to go to battery operation to handle the brownout, if the battery is dead it could act like this.

Thanks!
