too bad so sad
I hooked up the UPS to the linux computer and the device manager sees the UPS
battery.charge_level.current 100
battery.charge_level.design 100 ... 37 items in all including linux.device /dev/hiddev0
I installed PowerChute Business Edition but it couldn't find the port " Could not find port: /dev/hiddev0"
any ideas?

powerchute business edition only supports Smart UPS via USB and not Back UPS, so thats why its not working.
the only APC software that a Back UPS can use is powerchute personal edition edition on windows or Mac. there are other alternatives that aren't from APC such as APCUPSd which you can google to use with Linux.
