Hello,
I am experiencing a problem with my 5 years old ES 500. It first started to make a long beeping sound followed by a power cut.
I thought it could be an overload but without any device connected, I still have this 5 sec beep randomly, showing that there is a problem.
Could it be the battery that has to be replaced ?
The reference of my APC is BE500R-AS
Awaiting for any suggestions.
Laurent.

http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z7V9L/ASTE-6Z7V9L_R2_EN.pdf?sdirect=true - does anything in this document look familiar as far as the symptoms with noise and LED being illuminated?
My first thought is that the UPS very well could need a new battery and it is trying to tell you it is "disconnected" in the sense that the UPS can't see it connected anymore because it is dead - though that tone/visual indicator doesn't appear to align with what you described.
Here is a basic test I'd try. Plug in a lamp or other non critical object that you can tell is either off or on. Connect it to the battery backup + surge outlets and turn it on. Then, assuming you have the UPS on and running, unplug the UPS from the wall and see what happens to the lamp - does it turn off? And does the UPS itself turn off or remain on?
