When I play a game and the power goes out, the game gets minimized because of the APC pop up. Is there a way to disable the notification? Will the battery backup still work if I dont use the Power Chute software? I like to sim race online and if that thing pops up it causes me to lose control of the car and crash. What do you suggest? Only reason I need the battery backup is to keep me going during short power outages.

I had the same problem, since I use one APC in my home theater pc and the notifications were annoying and happening very frequently during movies (very unstable power + sensitive equip). Go to "Configuration" --> "Options" --> disable "Enable PS notification sounds". Also select "disable battery backup alarms at all times" in the "Notification" section. This should do it (using PS v2.1.1 with Vista 32 here) Another way around is to simply unplug the APC cable (similar to what voidstar recommended). Hope this helps.

Battery backup works without any software installed, so it will work without PowerChute. The purpose of PowerChute is to safely shutdown your computer in the event of a long power outage. If you only need to ride through power outages that are shorter than the UPS battery's runtime, then you don't need PowerChute.
