Greetings,
I've recently acquired 2 second hand UPSs, one a SU1400NET, and the other is probably a first generation model of the SUA1500. Both acquired from ebay at dirt cheap prices (literally, under $40 including shipping). Both were non-functional when I bought them, the 1400 just needed some new batteries, so I got it some and added a desulfator box to prolong battery life..... no trouble so far. It can run just about everything in my room, except my air conditioner, for about 3 hours, multiple computers included.
The 1500 on the other hand wasn't so lucky. Apparently it was severely abused before it went up for sale, so I'm going to try my hand at repairing it myself. I looked into the Trade In program, and decided it wasn't cost effective enough to warrant trading it in, even when adding in the 1400. So I'm letting my tinkerer side run wild since neither UPS has a warranty to void.
The 1500 UPS suffered a great deal of damage, but not to the point of being a total loss (That's my job to do). What was damaged and is being repaired/replaced so far are:
The 3 outlet receptacles were partly destroyed; (looked exactly like the 1400 receptacles, so changing them for standard wall receptacles works nicely)
The cooling fan is missing: all it is just a standard computer fan, no biggie there either. Just need to figure out where it plugs in, there is a 2 prong and 3 prong taps to choose from, I'll use my volt meter to figure that out later.
The transformer was not bolted down; (which caused the destruction of the 3 outlets), it is now properly bolted down, and is undamaged.
And finally, the battery connect/disconnect switch/plug thingy on the back was ripped out.
Considering that unlike the 1400, the 1500 battery cables tie directly to the pcb instead of running though the connect/disconnect switch/plug thingy, I can only assume that the 4 male blade connectors on the pcb near the now empty hole is where it tied into. This is the tricky part, and the reason for this post. I intend to get some sort of keyed switch to try and mimic that missing connector's function. All I need to know is how the wires were supposed to be connected for the circuit from the original setup. I do not wish to fry this UPS so soon in the game without giving it a chance to rise from the boneyard again.
Any info into this would be much appreciated. And yes, I do intend to be this thing's final owner. After I'm done with it(if I can't get it running), it can expect to be scrapped for parts.
Thank you in advance.
Dennis

Seems that their email system isn't working, certainly not the way to do business. But I'll keep trying as I've got nothing to lose. I'll just have to give them a call and see what they can offer. (and see if they even know that their email address is disabled)

Dennis,
We typically do not provide any type of support for what you are trying to accomplish here. As you stated, this UPS is out of warranty, and of course even if it was under warranty we would replace the entire UPS for you.
I would recommend that you give Coastal Business Machines a call. They specialize in UPS repairs and reconditioning.

Good luck!
