Difference between BR1000G and BX1000G? Replacement battery?

This was originally posted on APC forums on 6/10/2010

I'm having a difficult time determining the difference between these two models:

BR1000G aka Back-UPS Pro 1000
BX1000G aka Back-UPS XS1000

I am interested in the BX1000G as it seems to be about $30 less street price.

I finally found a backdoor into some specs for the BX1000G on the APC web site:

http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BX1000G&fnl=3944,2&fnl_basket=3944,3...

The main difference I could find is battery recharge time of 8 hours vs 16 hours, but I'm not sure that's correct.

Also the photos of the back panel for the BR1000G show one of the battery backup outlets as "controlled by master" where the BR1000G does not.

Are those differences correct, or what are the differences?

Also, what replacement battery pack does either model take, and what is the cost? None is listed on the web site.

Thank you.

Thank you for using APC Forum Overload.

You are correct, the recharge time for the BR1000G is 8 hours while the BX1000G takes 16 hours. BR1000G is exclusively distributed by APC while the BX series was made to be sold thru our resellers. To know more about the BR1000G series feel free to visit this site --> http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1000G.

Also the BR1000G has a total of 3 "controlled by master" outlets while the BX only have 2.

Thanks for the reply -- just to confirm, those are the only two differences then? (The reason I'm asking is the extreme recharge time difference seems like it would point to completely different electronics.)

Also, can you provide information on battery replacement and cost for these? Battery model is not listed in the specs or in the battery selector tool.

Thanks again.

That is correct Overload. Also, the reason why the replacement batteries are not listed is because batteries are expected to last within 3~5 years.

Thanks again, one more followup... Does that mean batteries are not replaceable in these, or the product is just too new to have them listed? If the latter, can you give me an idea of what the battery might cost (i.e. is it a standard single battery, or one of the more expensive double batteries).

I am looking at buying several and based on your responses am interested in the BX1000G.

But if batteries are an issue then I would go with the smaller BR700G which does list a replaceable battery pack RBC17 (which is available at reasonable cost).

The units do have replaceable batteries and since it is fairly new we do not have it listed yet. I will coordinate with a specialist on this product and see if we do have an estimated cost for the battery. Below is a knowledge base video that would show you how to replace the battery for this UPS.
