Did I fry my ES 550? blinking redlight / continuous beep

I had x2 mfw15 subwoofers which are rather large plugged into the surge only side of my ES 550. when I turned on the subs, the ES 550 turned off and began a continuios beep with red light blinking even after turning ES 550 on and off. Does this mean I blew my APC? Subs had been plugged in and working fine this way since I got them a few months ago. Will replacing battery work? I have a functional ES 500. Is battery compatible? Should I try swapping to test?

Could my APC failure have been caused by ungrounded subwoofer cords? I had to get ground defeating plugs for them becausemy subwooferswould hum

Before considering on swapping the batteries of these units, I would like to know first their model number. This would help me verify if they indeed use the same kind of battery. Also, have you tried reseating the battery of the ES 550? Did the breaker popped-out on your ES 550? It appears that when you have turned on the subs, there was a high inrush current that happened or a possible surge came in.

as long as the batteries will fit dimensionally, either will work.

The higher the amp hour rating, the longer run time you will have.

UB makes a pretty good battery.

In my thread I state ES550 is the one that stopped working and the ES 500 is the one I have that still works. Are these not model numbers?
Yes I tried reseating battery. I don't know how to tell if breaker button popped out. When I press it, it doesn't seem to do anything. I suppose this means it didnt pop out because after pressing it it looked the same. Does it matter that subwoofers were ungrounded? I had to use a ground defeating adapter for my subs because hummed without it.

We do have a lot of variations for our UPS's, for the ES550 we have BE550G, BE550R so we need to be sure on what does the customer have before recommending a battery. From the way that you have described the problem, it appears that your unit is experiencing a disconnected battery. We would troubleshoot this by ensuring that the battery is properly connected, checking that the terminal is not corroded, it is also recommended to check the battery condition if it is vented/bulged/expanding/damaged. If there's another unit that has the same battery, we advise to swap the batteries as well. If after swapping the battery and the problem still persists, it would be the time that we advise them to replace the UPS. The charging mechanism of the UPS can no longer detect the battery.

my disfunctional unit is BE55OR
working unit is BE500U
Can I swap batteries?

I can tell you that after I unplug disfunctional APC from wall, with battery plugged in I still get a quick beep sound when trying to turn on. This tells me the battery is properly seated

I apologize for the delay. I did check the measurement of the batteries and they are not the same size, though they are of the same voltage.

since you said batteries were compatibe I swapped, resulting in reversal of operable and in-operable APC's. From this it seems that the battery550 model has failed. When you said these batteries were different sizes, did you mean different capacity? Because the batteris themselves were the same size. How much do replacable batteries for these units cost? Are they worht it? Is there a way to disable alarm sound? I dont think I wat to keep these if not as it's very annoying when working off battery back up.

The batteries do have different sizes, I based it from the information that I found from the APC Technical Specifications page. The replacement battery for BE550R is [APCRBC110|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=APCRBC110] while the BE500U uses [RBC2|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=RBC2], both batteries costs $45.00. The only way to disable the alarm that you are experiencing is by disconnecting the battery itself, considering the age of your UPS I would recommend trading up your old UPS for a new one. If budget is an issue, then we could go for battery replacement.

I input both my models into trade in program and was only given a combined $9 discount and even with discount the price for upgrades being offered, its still cheaper to buy elsewhere .Is trade in program a joke or what? And paying $45 for a battery is a joke since I can get a neweqivilent model for that price. How about ebay batteries? Here is a 2 pack I found for $35. Not as good?

In my experience, the higher VA value that you get the bigger the discount it will give you. When it comes to replacement batteries, we still recommend using an APC branded battery for this has been tested to work with our units.

I removed sticker on battery to see specs. Mine say 12 v, 7.2 ah.
On amazon.com I found UB1280 & UB1270 1270 is 7Ah & 1280 is 8 Ah. Will both work just as well? Here are links to both batteries:
